Mosaics

Mosaics are called opus tessellatum and are made up of cubes called 'tesserae'.  These tesserae are different coloured marble, tile, bricks, glass, metal, pottery and other hard stones.  From around 1 A.D geometric motive are the design of mosaics but by A.D. 40 human and animal figures were developing.  Mosaics are very beautiful and sued for design in Roman times.  What we regard as magnificent the Romans could possibly have just walker all over them.
